Singer with velvet voice
Mahesh Chander

Down the memory lane many successful people revive nostalgic memories and like the cinema screen, things come quicker and vanish at the same speed but it gives many ecstatic momentsto cherish in the years to come. Mahesh Chander dreams about such events which makes him proud. One such things is when he says : "I do not exactly remember when my father Master Chander taught me two classical 'Ragas' and one Sindhi 'Kafi'.

"Ker kare parchau asaanjo kerkare parchau....'. but this much I remember very distinctly that he used to make me stand to sing a song in his programme, perhaps to make the public see my face... obviously my age at that time was 7 or 8 years.

Mahesh Chander's voice pick up was very natural, and this gave an indication to his versatile singer father about his son's bright career in music. Lot of classical singers, ghazals experts very often used to come to got Master Chander for discussion and this atmosphere attracted little Mahesh towards classical singing. Mahesh has rekindled the flame of music that his father lit. Mahesh not only followed the footprints of his father but also learned methodically from late Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale, Ved Prakash and Madan Prakash, a close relative of Late Khemchand Prakash. Regular 'Riyaz' and dedication has opened a new vista of ghazals for Mahesh and no wonder he has emerged among the forefront of ghazals singers, gaining recognition and popularity in no lesser measure.

In his earlier days, when Mahesh happened to get a chance to sing ghazals before Lata Mangeshkar she instantly recommended him to HMV for releasing Mahesh's first ghazal record. "Silsila Zulf ka jab mukh pe bikhar jata hai." This record workes wonders and proved a jackpot for Mahesh. Soon Lata Mangeshkar gave him his first break in the Marathi film, "Sadhi Manse" under her own music. Kedar Sharma also gave him the first Hindi title song in the film "Maikhana."

Title song of 'Pathron ka Shehar' under the music of Usha Khana gave Mahesh overnight popularity which helped him to get a lot of sponsored trips to foreign places adding yet another feather to his stature and public esteem...

At the insistence of his father, Mahesh unwillingly recorded his first EPE record in Sindhi. 'Suj Ubhar na toon, shal raat huje' but this record proved for him a successful entry in the Sindhi music world.

Mahesh was acclaimed as number one amongst 22 ghazal singing artistes including some of the pair singers by Sur Samsad at Rang Bhavan, Bombay and was highly praised by "The Times of India." Bombay.

In recent years, Mahesh has fully devoted himself to his father's songs and the gesture has been whole heartedly welcomed by the Sindhi fans of Master Chander. Few days back TIPS have released Mahes's new audio cassette 'Mahesh Chander Sings Qalams of Master Chander.' which has already proved a hit. Currently Mahesh is busy in giving the final touches to the music of Five Fingers Films' two Sindhi Video films 'Hik Galh Ta Budh' and 'Mili Veyee.'
